Deming Chen

As of October 2026, Deming Chen is the Abel Bliss Professor of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where his work spans reconfigurable computing and AI accelerator design. He earned a BS in computer science at the University of Pittsburgh in 1995 and a PhD in computer science at UCLA in 2005. In 2005 he joined the ECE department at Illinois, and he became a full professor there in 2015. The FCUDA paper on compiling CUDA kernels onto FPGAs entered the TCFPGA Hall of Fame in 2022. ACM named him a Fellow in 2025 for contributions to reconfigurable computing, including synthesis algorithms and customizable AI accelerator design methodologies.
