David Forsyth
David Forsyth works on computer vision, graphics and machine learning. Forsyth earned electrical-engineering degrees at Witwatersrand and a doctorate at Oxford. He later held research appointments at Iowa and Berkeley. He has held the Fulton-Watson-Copp chair at Illinois since 2014. He coauthored Computer Vision: A Modern Approach with Jean Ponce and later books on probability and applied machine learning. His research examines how images represent objects and how learned models can support visual understanding. As of October 2026, he holds the Illinois chair and teaches vision and autonomous systems.
