Cordell C. Green
Cordell C. Green researches logic-based AI and program synthesis. His Stanford thesis in 1969 examined theorem proving for question answering. His later publications include shared work on synthesizing programs and inferring Lisp code, followed by descriptions of the PSI system in 1976. He founded Kestrel Institute in 1981 and worked on knowledge-based software tools. AAAI elected him a Fellow in 1993. Green is president emeritus at Kestrel.

Timeline
-
1969
Theorem proving for questions and problems
Green’s Stanford doctoral thesis applied theorem proving to question answering in 1969. He also published a 1969 paper on theorem proving for problem solving. His research on automated software and AI systems used logical inference.
-
1975–1976
Program synthesis systems
Green coauthored 1975 papers on automatic program synthesis and inferring Lisp programs from examples. Green’s 1976 publications introduced the PSI program-synthesis system. Green researched program synthesis through knowledge and inference with his coauthors.
-
1981
Establishing Kestrel
Green founded Kestrel in 1981. His research there included knowledge-based tools for acquiring, analyzing and synthesizing software. The institute provided a setting for work on automated design and programs intended to be correct by construction.
-
1993 and later
AI recognition and emeritus role
AAAI elected Green a Fellow in 1993 for logic-based AI and program synthesis. Green is president emeritus at Kestrel.
