Researcher

Christian Theobalt

Theobalt earned an Edinburgh AI master’s in 2000 and a computer-science PhD at Saarland and the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in 2005. Theobalt coauthored DeepCap, a neural method for reconstructing dense human performance from a single camera. The team used weak supervision from multiple views during training and separate models for pose and surface deformation. Theobalt became scientific director in MPI Informatics’ Visual Computing and AI department in March 2021. He earlier led research in graphics, vision and video.
