Researcher

Cheng Chi

Cheng Chi began his Columbia doctorate with Shuran Song in January 2021. His research focused on robotic manipulation and perception. Chi coauthored Iterative Residual Policy, which learns how action changes affect an observed trajectory. The team tested rope whipping and cloth swinging with simulation-trained policies and real robot trials. Chi coauthored Diffusion Policy in 2023 and Universal Manipulation Interface in 2024. These named projects extend his manipulation research into learning robot actions and teaching robots from demonstrations.
