Ce Zhang

As of October 2026, Ce Zhang is founder and CTO of Together AI and a Neubauer Associate Professor of computer science and data science at the University of Chicago. He completed his PhD at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2015 with DeepDive, a system for building knowledge bases from unstructured information. At ETH Zürich, he led DS3Lab and helped develop Ease.ML, a lifecycle-management system for machine learning. Together AI launched in 2022 with Zhang among its founders to build a cloud platform for open-source generative models.

  1. 2014–2015

    DeepDive and SIGMOD honors

    In 2014, he coauthors “Materialization optimizations for feature selection workloads,” which wins the SIGMOD Best Paper Award. His 2015 University of Wisconsin–Madison dissertation describes DeepDive, a system for building knowledge bases from unstructured information. A 2015 DeepDive paper receives the SIGMOD Research Highlight Award.

  2. 2016–2023

    Leading ETH's DS3Lab

    He joins ETH Zürich as a tenure-track assistant professor in September 2016 and leads the DS3 Research Lab on making machine-learning platforms easier to use. His group publishes Ease.ML: A Lifecycle Management System for Machine Learning at CIDR in 2021. He leaves ETH in summer 2023.

  3. June 2022

    Co-founding Together AI

    Together launches in June 2022 with Zhang among its founders. By 2023, the company is building a cloud platform for running, training and fine-tuning open-source models.

  4. 2024

    Joining the University of Chicago

    He joins the University of Chicago as a Neubauer Associate Professor of Computer and Data Science after serving as an associate professor at ETH Zürich and CTO of Together.

  5. July 2025

    A UChicago demo day

    At UChicago's July 2025 Deep Tech Demo Day, he joins a discussion as CTO of Together.AI and Neubauer Associate Professor of Computer Science and Data Science.

    CTO and UChicago professor

    He is Founder and CTO of Together AI and a Neubauer Associate Professor of computer science and data science at the University of Chicago. Together AI designs a full-stack platform for production AI.
