Alon Halevy
Also known as Alon Yitzchak Halevy, Alon Y. Halevy
Alon Halevy is a computer scientist whose data integration work earned honours from ACM and VLDB. He earned degrees at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at Stanford before joining the University of Washington faculty in 1998. At Google Research he led the Structured Data Group, whose team developed WebTables and Google Fusion Tables. He became an ACM Fellow in 2006 and received a SIGMOD innovations award in 2021. At Meta he worked on neural and symbolic techniques for data management and on human value alignment, and he has been a Distinguished Engineer at Google Cloud since 2024.

A Stanford computer science PhD
He earns a bachelor's degree in computer science and mathematics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in 1988. He completes a Ph.D. in computer science at Stanford in 1993.

1998
Founding a database group
In 1998 he joins the University of Washington as a professor, where he founds its database group.

2005–2015
Structured data work at Google
He leads the Structured Data Group at Google Research from 2005 to 2015, where his team develops WebTables and Google Fusion Tables.

Elected Fellow of the ACM
In 2006 he becomes an ACM Fellow, and the VLDB conference gives him a 10-year Best Paper Award for his data integration work.

2015–2018
Head of Recruit Institute of Technology
In 2015 he joins Recruit Institute of Technology as its head, coming from Google Research. From 2015 to 2018 he is chief executive of Megagon Labs.

2019–2023
Human value alignment at Meta
He becomes a director at Meta's Reality Labs Research in 2019, where he works on neural and symbolic techniques for data management and on human value alignment. His directorship ends in November 2023.

The Edgar F. Codd Innovations Award
In 2021 he receives the Edgar F. Codd SIGMOD Innovations Award.
