Birch holds an Edinburgh chair in multilingual NLP and belongs to the StatMT research group. Her research covers multilingual and multimodal learning, explainability and efficiency. Birch leads EuroLLM, UTTER and GoURMET. These projects address a European language model, multilingual meeting assistance and low-resource translation for media. Birch co-founded Aveni and serves as chief scientist. FinLLM is a project with Lloyds and Nationwide on a language model for UK financial services.
