Researcher

Alex Krizhevsky

Alex Krizhevsky is an AI researcher who co-authored the 2012 paper on deep convolutional networks for ImageNet classification. He completed an MSc thesis on tiny-image features in 2009, joined Google in 2013, and co-authored 2017 research on robotic grasping. After leaving Google in 2017, he worked at Dessa on deep-learning techniques. NeurIPS selected the AlexNet paper for its Test of Time Award in 2022, and since 2025 he has served as a venture partner at Two Bear Capital.

Timeline

  1. 2009

    A thesis on tiny images

He completes an MSc thesis titled 'Learning Multiple Layers of Features from Tiny Images' in 2009.

  2. 2012

    ImageNet classification

In 2012, he co-authors a paper with Ilya Sutskever and Geoffrey Hinton that trains a deep convolutional network to classify 1.3 million ImageNet training images into 1,000 classes.
